Settling into London

Outpost London invites new expatriates to a ‘Settling into London’ morning. There will be a short introduction on living in the UK -health system, education, career and development- and time for you to ask your own questions. You will get to know the team and the services we offer and offer and you will meet other expatriate Shell families.

Venue: Linda Grubics house
Linda Grubic will host a coffee morning in her home. This morning will give you the perfect opportunity to meet with new arrivals and to catch up with old friends.

Do you feel you could make more of your stay in London? What will you consider as successful? How to make it even better? Whether you are new in London, or have been here for a while, whether this is your first expatriation or you refuse to count them anymore, this workshop is for you!! Let’s meet Claire d’Aboville, who has her career in Human Resources with global organisations and relocated 7 times internationally. She speaks 3 languages and now works as a coach, to help individuals reach their personal and professional goals. More specifically she has developed a very well received programme to help expatriate spouses address the professional side of their life while in London.
Working & Living in the UK – Tom Hoogewerf

Time: 12.00 - 1.30
Venue: Outpost London Office, Shell Centre
This workshop, presented by Tom Hoogewerf of Global Assignments, will look at British behavioural style and communication preferences, and consider their impact and relevance for expatriates and their families working for Shell in the UK. The approach will be informal and interactive, focusing on key aspects of working and living effectively in the UK, with activities, examples and case studies, plus a final question & answer session.
The topics covered will include: introductions: meeting and greeting, workplace and social etiquette, cultural ‘dos and don’ts’, building relationships with colleagues and acquaintances, managing effective meetings and presentations, effective communication: verbal and non-verbal; personal and professional, socialising and entertaining: business and personal, key British values and doing Business in the UK: cultural dimensions.
Career & Development Support Group
Tuesday 1 July
Time: 10.30 - 12.00
Venue: Shell Centre
If you are considering working, studying, changing career or volunteering in the UK or anywhere else in the world, now or in the future, do come and join us. The Career & Development Support Group is an informal sharing of experience as well as an opportunity to create networking contacts while meeting with other likeminded Shell expatriate partners.

We have booked a tour with award winning company London Walks ( www.walks.com). This one will tell us all about the mysterious side of London. The tour is also suitable for people who haven’t read the Da Vinci Code.

The Expat Social Club organizes different activities in central London for single employees and couples to meet new people. This time we will go for dinner in one of the restaurants on Southbank (near Shell Centre).

our own services, Outpost London has partnered with FOCUS to
provide career support services. The Career & Development
programme of FOCUS is free for Shell spouses. .

Renewal Project in Shell Centre Tower, Outpost London has lost
track of some of you. Please contact
us if you have moved office or if you have not received
Outpost London correspondence (e.g. Destinations magazine) through
internal mail in the last three months. Also, if you received
correspondence but it was re-directed by Shell Mail Services,
please let us know.

Outpost London Job Openings
Office
Volunteer
An
office volunteer will be responsible for the upkeep of the main
database. Other duties may include: ordering information pamphlets
from schools, organisations etc., photocopying, maintaining
the Library and general office assistance. We prefer a
candidate who has working knowledge of MS Excel, MS Word and
MS Outlook and can commit to one day a week 10.00am - 3.00pm.
Career
& Development Volunteer
A
Career & Development volunteer will be assisting our C&D
advisor with a project on Spouse Vocational Assistance.

Area
Coordinators
Would
you like to be part of the Outpost London team but prefer the
comfort of your own home, why not become an area coordinator?
Area
coordinators welcome like-minded expatriates in their area by
organising a coffee morning three times a year. Outpost London
will look after the invitation email and distribution.
We
appreciate it if you could also provide the new expat with local
information and knowledge.
