Consultancy
Through a personal consultancy service, expatriate and repatriated
partners are provided with information, advice, and guidance
to help meet their career and development needs. Sylvia Spoelder,
our Career & Development (C&D) consultant can assist
you with reassessing your career and future goals, which often
change with a new posting and new opportunities in a new location.
Outpost London offers C&D services for our spouse/partner
community who:
- Are looking actively for a job
- Want to consider their options/explore possibilities
- Want to develop their skills and potential during their posting
in the UK
- Would like to find volunteering opportunities or work in the
voluntary sector in a paid position
- Consider setting up their own business or go self-employed
Our service not only focuses on career and personal development,
but it is done with the understanding that our lifestyle is
one of frequent moves and new postings and balancing working
hours with personal life and family requirements is essential.
Career Workshops
Throughout the year Outpost London organises a variety of different
workshops and networking events. Workshops can include; Portable

Career
& Development Support Group
The Career & Development Support Group holds informal get-togethers
when participants share their job search and work experiences.
These meetings also serve as an opportunity for individuals
to create networking contacts while meeting with other likeminded
Shell expatriate partners. The group gets together every two
months. Please check the News & Events page for more information.
Inside Guide Career & Development
Outpost London has compiled a guide for spouses/partners interested
in pursuing their career or starting and/or continuing their
studies. The information in this guide has been gathered from
many sources including some personal experiences of expatriate
families. Subjects discussed in the guide include practical
information about work permits, national insurance and income
tax, how to approach your job search or career counselling,
information on voluntary work, the Partner Development Plan
(PDP) and many useful websites. Please send us an e-mail (outpostlondon@shell.com)
if you want to receive the Inside Guide C&D.
Job vacancies
Sylvia can guide you to different sources that list
vacancies for your chosen job areas and positions. Our Career
& Development service provides advice and information. We
are not a job agency and we take no direct part in recruitment
processes. Our philosophy is to ‘help partners to help themselves.’
