Emergency numbers:
999 is the United Kingdom's medical
emergency number. It is used alongside the EU standard
112. Either number can be used but 999 is more popular
and better-known than 112. It is an all-service number,
meaning that it should be called in any situations where
state-run emergency services are needed. The three main
and best-known services are fire & rescue services,
police and paramedics. Other available services include
coastguards, mountain rescue and cave rescue (where
locally relevant).

Public Holidays
The Public Holidays (also called Bank
Holidays) vary within Scotland and are also different
from the rest of the UK. For 2008 the
Public Holidays for Aberdeen (and therefore the
Shell office) are:

On Public Holidays most of the shops in
the High Streets are open, as are the supermarkets, but
they may have different opening hours. However, on 25th
and 26th December and 1st and 2nd January shops are
closed. Even supermarkets like Asda, Garthdee Road,
Bridge of Dee, and Tesco, Laurel Drive, Danestone that
are normally open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, are
closed on these days, as are the petrol stations.
